what matters.
Moving closer to family? Downsizing a home full of memories? Start with the people, places and belongings you want to bring into the next chapter.
Try a sample move Explore your neighborhoodWhat happens to Ruth’s dining table?
Ruth is moving from Milwaukie to a smaller apartment. Her reading chair is coming with her. Her daughter Ana would love the table, but hasn’t measured her doorway yet. Try choosing a plan for it.
Measure the doorway and confirm pickup. Until then the table stays at Ruth’s house.
A move that feels right to the person moving.
Before we count boxes, we ask: what would make the first evening in the new home feel familiar? Maybe it’s the reading chair by the window, or knowing who has the family albums. Those answers shape the move.
The person moving sets the priorities and chooses who helps decide. We measure favorite pieces and try layouts together. “I’m not ready to decide” belongs in the plan, too.
For each piece, record its destination, who’s responsible, and by when. Keep family pickup, donation, sale, storage and disposal distinct. Mark open questions so nobody mistakes a suggestion for permission to haul something away.
Compare crew time, extra stops, disposal fees and storage rent before agreeing to the estimate. Check the elevator window and receiving hours. If the plan changes, agree on the new cost before the crew makes the trip.
Dad wants his daughter to have it. She’ll measure her doorway and call by Thursday. Until she confirms, the crew leaves it in place. If she needs more time, the family can compare a month of storage with a second moving trip before deciding.
Start close to home.

Set aside electronics and hazardous materials. Some sites charge extra or require a separate drop-off. Eligible recycling programs may take them free. Tell the operator exactly what you have and who is hauling it before estimating fees.

You choose what matters.
A move manager can plan the rest.
You don’t need a finished checklist. You can ask someone to compare options, call facilities, confirm pickups and work out who does what on move day.
